The recent case of the rape and impregnation of a 10-year-old girl in Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Mexico is igniting the usual debate concerning the legality of abortion and the necessity thereof.

10-year-old’s pregnancy fuels Mexican abortion debate
Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) — A pregnant 10-year-old, allegedly raped by her stepfather, has become the latest lightning rod in the country’s heated abortion debate.
The girl’s stepfather has been arrested. But advocates on both sides of the issue say their battle is just beginning. [We know this all too well. Pro-death advocates will always seize on cases such as these in order to claim their that abortion is the only answer when clearly it is not. As a commenter on the original site stated, physiological maturity of a person can vary. In this case it is obvious the girl was at a point where she was menstruating. With the proper care (mental and physical) this girl can come out on top and so can her child who would probably be adopted.]
“This girl is much more than an isolated case,” said Adriana Ortiz-Ortega, a researcher at Mexico’s National Autonomous University who has written two books on abortion in Mexico, “and there is much more influence now from conservative groups that are trying to prevent the legalization of abortion.”
Abortion is legal in Mexico’s capital city, but prohibited or significantly restricted in most of the country’s states. The girl’s home state of Quintana Roo, on the Yucatan peninsula, allows abortion in cases of rape during the first 90 days of the pregnancy. But the 10-year-old girl is at 17½ weeks, nearly a month past that limit.
Advocacy groups are calling for federal officials and the United Nations to investigate Quintana Roo’s handling of the matter, claiming officials did not inform her of her abortion rights. [Pro-aborts will argue that this child is not capable of understanding the ramifications of her pregnancy; however, they make the case here that she is capable of understanding her right to an abortion. This is contradictory and makes no sense. More than likely the camp on the side of death is probably counting on this child not understanding the fact that abortion would kill the child within her. But consider that many times the maternal/paternal instincts will begin to manifest at an early age so I would argue that the girl understands in some what is going on in some way. Think of Our Blessed Mother’s fiat. She was not much older than this girl and knew full well what would happen when she said “Be it done to me according to thy word (Luke 1:38).” What she did not understand was how since she “knew not man (Luke 1:34).”]
“We don’t know what is happening, and the institution that is supposed to provide support and care for these minors hasn’t been transparent. We’re really asking for accountability,” said Maria Luisa Sanchez Fuentes, director of the Information Group on Reproductive Choice. [Then they should take care to ensure that the stepfather is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.]
State Attorney General Francisco Alor Quezada said he did not know whether officials had told the girl she had the option of pursuing an abortion, and he did not know how far the girl was into her pregnancy when her mother reported the assault to authorities last month.
He said the girl is in the custody of state protective services, and officials are closely monitoring her physical and psychological care.
“I do not think there is another instance in which the girl could be in better hands,” he said Monday.
Child protective services officials in Quintana Roo said in a statement last week that the girl and the fetus were in good health. [For the child and her unborn baby, this is what should take precedent.]
But Quintana Roo state legislator Maria Hadad said the girl’s doctors aren’t telling the whole story. She said continuing the pregnancy could cause severe mental and physical health problems for the girl. [This is what gets me. After seeing what pregnancy can do to the mother, anyone can make this argument which weakens the case for abortion. On the flip side, we know for sure that abortion can cause sever mental and physical scars. Better to side with God’s will for the protection of innocent life.]
“It’s not just a high-risk pregnancy. It’s a pregnancy that puts the girl at risk,” Hadad told Mexican broadcaster Channel 10 in Chetumal, Mexico. [Again, many pregnancies but the mother at risk. Does that mean that you abort every child in the same situation?]
The Roman Catholic Church vocally opposes abortion in Mexico [As she does everywhere. Yet it appears from this article that the local Church has not made any comment on this particular case. So why even mention her by name? Controversy and the desire to undermine the Church.], and the topic has long been controversial there. The debate has been particularly heated since 2007, when the nation’s more liberal capital city approved a law legalizing abortion during the first three months of pregnancy with no restrictions. That decision was challenged and ultimately upheld by the country’s Supreme Court in 2008.
Since 2007, 17 states have passed laws “protecting life beginning at conception,” according to the Information Group on Reproductive Choice. Legislators in Quintana Roo, which is also is home to the popular resort city of Cancun, approved such changes to its constitution last year.
CNN’s Nadia Sanders and Krupskaia Alis in Mexico City, and Catherine E. Shoichet and Rafael Romo in Atlanta contributed to this report.
As usual, pro-aborts will attempt to use this horrid case of abuse and rape to suit their desires. Yet their arguments are tired and fly in the face of natural and moral law. Killing a baby in the womb does nothing to repair the harm done to this child. In fact will probably harm her further.
As I mentioned earlier, maternal instincts tend to surface very early in human development. I can already see the complimentary paternal instincts manifesting in my two boys through their defence of one another in addition to how they care for their “babies” albeit they prefer bears, bananas and brontosauruses. The natural God-given instincts are there.
To emphasize the derelict nature of abortion and those who support such a heinous crime against life, read the following comment from the original article:
Boricuawife: The reality of any pregnancy is that it is a parasite on the mother. [This is the logic. That every baby is a parasite. It is dehumanizing the child. The same tactic used by advocates of every genocide I can think of.] (please don’t take offense. I have 3 children of my own) In truth, for the fetus to survive, it must live off of its mothers body until gestation is complete. [And then that same child eats you out of house and home for 18 years costing you your “me” time, vacations, gadgets, etc…Parenthood is the embodiment of the love of God within us. The parent is the servant of servants; we must completely empty ourselves to our spouse and then for our children. This is the what I LIVE FOR – to serve God through my marriage and my children!] Pregnancy takes its toll on a full grown woman, including depleting a woman of vital nutrients. [Again, making the baby the adversary – the stumbling block.] This child is on the beginning edge of puberty. During puberty, a child’s nutritional requirements change drastically and all of the necessary nutrients have a place to go. For this poor child, those nutrients are being diverted to the fetus, robbing her body [Yes nutrients are diverted to the baby but they cannot deplete the mother for this would be the death of both. Trust in Christ Jesus and all will turn out for the best even if that is beyond our human comprehension.] of vital nutrients which will in turn affect her possibly for the rest of her life. The strain of carrying the fetus to term carries a far greater risk than terminating the pregnancy now. The longer the pregnancy continues, the greater the risk to this young life. [Once more the baby is the adversary and there is a dehumanizing disregard for the importance of the child in the womb.]
There is no reason to further injure the child-mother and the baby because of this horrid act. On the sole understanding that God is the author of life and the one who made a soul specifically for that child in the womb (Job 31:15, Psalms 139:13-14, Isaiah 44:2, Jeremiah 1:5, Luke 1:15, Luke 1:41,1 Corinthians 6:19-20) we should understand that this baby is part of His Divine Mercy. He makes all things new (Revelation 21:5) – turning this horrible sin into a miracle of life. It may not be for this mother to raise her child but there could be another willing to take the burden. Only God knows the full potential of any one person, who are we to interfere?
