Let us all pray for the repose of fitness legend Jack LaLanne. Certainly some can argue that the manner in which we focus on physical fitness is tantamount to vanity, those like Mr. LaLanne show us that this is not the case.

I am not certain of Mr. LaLanne’s religious or a-religious beliefs but what I am certain of is that in a world where the fortunate are way less dependent on physical labor to meet their needs, physical fitness acts as a way to combat sloth. Eating right and exercising for the purposes of maintaining the gift of life that was given to you at conception is not vanity but rather it is meeting your duty of stewardship.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Fitness legend Jack LaLanne will be laid to rest Tuesday during a “Celebration of Life” at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills memorial park.

LaLanne died at the age of 96 on Jan. 23 of respiratory failure due to pneumonia.

The fitness pioneer encouraged generations of television viewers to exercise and eat right.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, fitness guru Richard Simmons, and former “Hulk” TV star Lou Ferrigno are among those expected to speak at the service.

It is almost certain that excess in eating is the cause of almost all the diseases of the body, but its effects on the soul are even more disastrous.

  1. Sorry for the delay but to answer your question, frankly, I do not know whether or not he was a Christian. I can find nothing definitive on the web but that does not mean that he was not. Either way, we should pray for the repose of his soul and the souls of all the departed.
