Feud over Netflix traffic leads to video slowdown- MSN Money

Netflix subscribers have seen a lot more spinning wheels lately as they wait for videos to load, thanks to a standoff deep in the Internet.

The online-video service has been at odds with Verizon Communications and other broadband providers for months over how much Netflix streaming content they will carry without being paid additional fees.

Now the long-simmering conflict has heated up and is slowing Netflix, in particular, on Verizon’s fiber-optic FiOS service, where Netflix says its average prime-time speeds dropped by 14 percent last month. The slowdown comes as Netflix is rolling out the new season of its Emmy-winning series “House of Cards.”

The dispute involves the plumbing behind parts of the Internet that are invisible to consumers. As more people stream movies and television, that infrastructure is getting strained, intensifying the debate over who should pay for upgrades needed to satisfy America’s online-video habit.

There is a glaring omission in this article and that is any analysis of the Redbox streaming service provided by Verizon. Are subscribers of that service noticing any delays especially on Verizon’s FiOS?

It seems that this is a ploy by ISPs to push their streaming solutions over third-party services. Smells like some antitrust stuff here.

When the men do time, their daughters do time

“I thought I needed material things to make my daughter happy, when what I needed was right in front of my face.”

This is a very touching, inspiring story and I ask all who read it to pray for these men and their families because despite everything they’ve done and put their families through – these fathers are still needed by their kids.

Satanism, Secularism and the Grammy Awards

Official 52nd Grammy Awards Poster Art

I missed the Grammy Awards and I could care less. My apathy towards the Awards show or pretty much any awards show for that matter was solidified with the various reports I’ve been reading highlighting comments/reactions of AJ McCarron and Natalie Grant, a Grammy Award nominee.

Both of these individuals commented on what appears to have been explicit and even satanic/pagan performances from persons such as Jay-Z and Beyonce and Katy Perry. Couple that with the mass so-called wedding taking place during the show and you get a glimpse into the evils of relativism and secularism.

Thanks be to God that I know better now than I did before.

This anti-speeding ad from New Zealand will haunt you |

Christ taught us to love our neighbor. Well here is another example of how the simple act of obeying laws we deem “fluid” based on location, car, mood, etc. can become a day-to-day expression of that love simply because you care enough to be considerate of the person or persons you may never see otherwise.

This anti-speeding ad from New Zealand will haunt you

ANTI-SPEEDING ads have been done to death, which is perfectly appropriate when you consider how many people die every year because of speeding.

But this ad from our friends in New Zealand turns the subject on its head. It asks speeders, who may think they’re in control, to think about the mistakes that other drivers make. And in doing so, it literally makes time stop.

The ad opens with its focus on a father who is waiting to turn onto a country road with his son sitting in the back seat.

The father makes a mistake. He pulls out in front of a car which is travelling towards him too fast. Moments before the two vehicles collide, time freezes.

Both drivers get out of their cars and walk towards each other.

“Mate … I’m so sorry, I thought there was time,” the father says.

“You just pulled out,” the other man responds. “I don’t have time to stop.”

“Please. I’ve got my boy in the back,” says the father. The other man looks over and sees the child in the back seat.

“I’m going too fast,” he says. There’s an awkward pause. “I’m sorry.”

Both men walk back to their cars. The second man looks at his speedometer, which says he’s moving at more than 100km/h. The father takes one last look at his son, with pain etched all over his face.

Then time restarts, and the two vehicles smash into each other.

As the screen fades to black, the words “Other people make mistakes. Slow down” appear.

Watch the ad. It might haunt you for a while, but that’s probably a price worth paying.

Kraft Velveeta Shortage!

Time to bye up all the Velveeta on the shelves (if you’re into that sort of thing).

NEW YORK (AP) — Playoff parties may have one fewer dip option this year.

Kraft Foods says some customers may not be able to find Velveeta cheese over the next few weeks. A representative for the company, Jody Moore, didn’t give any reasons for the apparent shortage, saying only that they happen from time to time given the “nature of manufacturing.”

She noted that the lack of availability is more noticeable because of the seasonal demand during the NFL playoffs. The company has been airing TV commercials featuring a recipe for a chili con queso dip made with Velveeta.

Moore says it should be a short-term situation and that Kraft hasn’t yet heard from any customers who are having problem finding the products. She did not say whether the company experienced a similar shortage last year.

The trade publication Ad Age reported the issue Tuesday, quoting an employee at a Brooklyn-area grocery store who didn’t expect shipments again until February due to “a plant issue.”

Safeway supermarkets are not experiencing issues with Velveeta supplies, said Safeway representative Teena Massingill in an email.

A representative for supermarket chain Kroger was not available to comment on whether it was having difficulty stocking Velveeta cheeses.

The shortage affects only the Velveeta hard cheese products, but was not limited to a specific area.

“It is possible consumers in any part of the country may not be able to find some Velveeta products,” Moore said in an email.

Kraft Foods Group Inc., based in Northfield, Ill., also owns brand including Jell-O, Oscar Mayer and Maxwell House.

There is something strange going on in the Supreme Court lately. While Obama-appointed Justice Sotomayor is placing injunctions against the HHS mandate and so-called homosexual marriage, Bush-appointed Justice Roberts is not blocking any requests even those made concerning legal technicalities. If memory serves me correctly Roberts also when against expectation in another case presented before the Court in 2013.

Anyway, I guess I cannot hate on Justice Roberts on this one as I am no lawyer an have no idea the merits of the argument so maybe this denial is legit. Either way, Obama-care has far more problems than legal technicalities.

NYC satanists propose 7-Foot Satan statue for OK capitol

I was pretty hesitant to publish a post on this subject but a couple of things prompted me to do so:

  1. Freedom of Speech/Religion – I may not agree with the religious opinion of the Satanic Temple but they do have the right express their opinions and believe what they believe.
  2. Interstate influence – I am not from OK but I am so curious as to how and why any group that resides outside of the state of Oklahoma can petition to place a monument out front of the state’s capital. It seems to me that if you are not from the state then take that petition to your own state’s capital. Oh well.

Check out the snippet below:

The Satanic Temple says Oklahoma’s decision to put a Ten Commandments monument at the Capitol opened the door for its statute.

OKLAHOMA CITY —  A satanic group unveiled designs Monday for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan it wants to put at the Oklahoma state Capitol, where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012.

The New York-based Satanic Temple formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds, including an artist’s rendering that depicts Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that’s often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

For those who don’t know Christmas isn’t over but instead is just beginning, if you are an Eastern Orthodox Catholic that is.

Merry Christmas to my brothers and sisters in the East!

Christmas celebrations set for Eastern Orthodox in Bethlehem

( The heads of several ancient Eastern Orthodox Churches arrived in Bethlehem on Monday to celebrate the Orthodox Christmas.
Patriarchs from the Greek Orthodox, Assyrian, Coptic, and Ethiopian churches arrived separately in various celebrated processions to Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, the traditional birthplace of Jesus.

Unlike Christians in the West who follow the Gregorian calendar and celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25, Eastern Orthodox Christians use the older Julian calendar and celebrate Christmas on Jan. 7.

The Christmas celebrations come amid tremendous upheaval for many Middle East Christians— especially Christians in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq—who have come under attack from Islamic extremists.

Roughly half of the Christians in Israel belong to the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, which is part of the 16 churches that comprise the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Hernandez, 15, a sophomore at a science and engineering magnet program at Jay, and her father, Steven Hernandez, both testified that they believed the school’s radio frequency identification system was a sign of the Antichrist described in the biblical Book of Revelation.

I wonder if these cats consider that cell phones, Google, Facebook, etc. work the same if not more effectively and with more permanence. Permanence I would argue is rivaled by only God Himself  – if I can say that without being accused of anti-Christian comments…

Noah’s Ark Replica Built in Netherlands

In connection with the story I posted yesterday about evidence being found for the Great Flood, here is a story on the replica that was the featured image of said post.

He may have trouble finding two animals of every kind, but Johan Huibers of the Netherlands isn’t one to be dissuaded.

After 20 years, the professional builder completed his goal of building a full-scale, fully-operational version of Noah’s Ark, using Genesis, books 6-9, in The Bible as his guide.

Huibers converted cubits to modern measurements to pull off the feat, reports the Associated Press, leading to an impressive wooden vessel that is 427 feet long, 95 feet wide and 75 feet high.

But just to be clear, the Dutchman, a Christian, is not expecting a flood of Biblical proportions anytime soon.

“I had a call from American television,” he told AP with a laugh. “This has nothing to do with the end of the Mayan calendar.”

Instead, citing what The Bible predicts might be in store for Earth, Huibers says, “I want to make people question that so that they go looking for answers.” He also hopes people will ultimately find salvation through God and eternal life.

And while the ark is not currently occupied with multitudes of four-legged creatures – though there are reportedly some plastic and stuffed replicas of larger species onboard for atmosphere – there is a small petting zoo with ponies, dogs, sheep, rabbits and exotic birds aboard the ship, which is moored just south of Rotterdam, as well as a restaurant and movie theater that can seat 50.

What I find most interesting, aside from the accomplishment itself, is that I found this story on People’s People Pets section. Go figure.
