On why one person thinks they are pro-life

The excerpt below, from a recent op-ed piece, is a perfect example of what is often referred to as “relativism.” One the one hand the anonymous author states correctly that being pro-life means that one respect the sanctity of life, they qualify the definition with an all or nothing approach that essentially pulls the rug out from under that sanctity.

(Just an aside, I pulled what I felt were the full nuggets of the piece, which deals with the issue of life. The remainder of the op-ed is a bit of a rant against conservative politicians…blah, blah, blah…)

In my world, you don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and be against common-sense gun control — like banning public access to the kind of semiautomatic assault rifle, designed for warfare, that was used recently in a Colorado theater. You don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and want to shut down the Environmental Protection Agency, which ensures clean air and clean water and combats climate change that could disrupt every life on the planet. You don’t get to call yourself “pro-life” and oppose programs like Head Start that provide basic education, health and nutrition for the most disadvantaged children. You can call yourself a “pro-conception-to-birth, indifferent-to-life conservative.” I will never refer to someone who pickets Planned Parenthood but lobbies against common-sense gun laws as “pro-life.”

Once we get past the ranting we get to the substance of this person’s opinion. I find it interesting that this piece remains anonymous as anyone who feels so strongly that their position is correct should stand behind it. I may put funny pictures as my profile and the like but it isn’t that hard to find me out.

Anyway, the author qualifies their vision of pro-life of being of their “world.” As such, the start of the relative begins. Relativism is one of those concepts that seems good on the surface but is essentially a mirage that disappears as one gets closer leaving you thirsty and worse off than before. That said, there are some interesting points such as the lack of effective gun, environmental and education regulation. But there is one major issue – the author lumps all of these issues in a manner that leads implies that each issue is equal to the other.

Willful abortion, the murder of children in the womb, is an evil that has no equal. It goes so far against the norm that its abolishment is a goal of importance that far exceeds that of any other listed here. And that is because every right that a human has stems from the right to life. Moreover, all of the other issues presented here are those that humans affect on each other and some are even self inflicting. Abortion on the other hand is one where the primary victim has no choice or even opportunity to remove themselves from harm.

“Pro-life” can mean only one thing: “respect for the sanctity of life.” And there is no way that respect for the sanctity of life can mean we are obligated to protect every fertilized egg in a woman’s ovary, no matter how that egg got fertilized, but we are not obligated to protect every living person from being shot with a concealed automatic weapon. I have no respect for someone who relies on voodoo science to declare that a woman’s body can distinguish a “legitimate” rape, but then declares — when 99 percent of all climate scientists conclude that climate change poses a danger to the sanctity of all life on the planet — that global warming is just a hoax.

The term “pro-life” should be a shorthand for respect for the sanctity of life. But I will not let that label apply to people for whom sanctity for life begins at conception and ends at birth. What about the rest of life? Respect for the sanctity of life, if you believe that it begins at conception, cannot end at birth. That radical narrowing of our concern for the sanctity of life is leading to terrible distortions in our society.

While the author is correct that pro-life is a term where the identified or self-identified explicitly values all life (human life mind you) as sacred, their definition is one of their own design as it does not truly value human life as sacred. This is evidenced by their failure to elevate the protection of the most inalienable right of the most innocent as the number one priority.

Would they be so rash at comparing slavery and genocide (of native american, Jews, etc.) as being on the same level as the environment and health care? This makes no sense.

Respect for life has to include respect for how that life is lived, enhanced and protected — not only at the moment of conception but afterward. That’s why, for me, the most “pro-life” politician in America is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. While he supports a woman’s right to choose, he has also used his position to promote a whole set of policies that enhance everyone’s quality of life — from his ban on smoking in bars and city parks to reduce cancer, to his ban on the sale in New York City of giant sugary drinks to combat obesity and diabetes, to his requirement for posting calorie counts on menus in chain restaurants, to his push to reinstate the expired federal ban on assault weapons and other forms of common-sense gun control, to, to his support for mitigating disruptive climate change.

Again, there is truth to the author’s position but to qualify it with the work of Mayor Bloomberg is questionable and of poor understanding of the sanctity of life. Banning acts of the will like smoking, sugary drinks and the like, while well-intentioned and even beneficial, but not doing so with concern for the murder of children is reprehensible and contradictory. None of those items, including guns and climate change are as grave or have a direct impact on an individual person – as in an innocent person being the target each and every time – as abortion.

Child Murder for Money: America’s Abortion Industry

BloodMoney: The Business of Abortion

BloodMoney is a documentary film that exposes the truth behind the holocaust of abortion by taking an all-encompassing look at the business of abortion from the Pro Life perspective.

BloodMoney DVD synopsis

If ever there were a documentary produced in recent years that provided a fair view of the subject despite the acknowledging its makers’ own impartiality on the matter, it would be BloodMoney.

In this feature documentary, the viewer is provided with facts, not mere propaganda seeking to cover the truth or play some slight-of-hand trick with the fact that in America today – it is legal to hire a hitman. Not to take out your enemies but to destroy the life of an innocent child while still in the womb. Sadly, it is their own mothers and fathers that often seek out to hire contract killers known as abortionists.

Narrator Aleveda King, the niece of civil rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., provides a tempered and gentle voice that details the history and roots of the abortion industry from the Nazi-tied and racist eugenicist and Planned Parenthood founder Margret Sanger to the questionable, devastating decision of 1973’s Roe vs. Wade all the way to the resurgence of the Pro Life movement supported and maintained more and more by today’s youth (particularly women) and as always – the Catholic Church.

BloodMoney is indeed a must-have for every parish, school, college and family video library with pre-teens on up at least. This is truly a heart-felt master work of truth that speaks for itself. No smoke. No mirrors. Just the facts on the tragedy that is the Business of Abortion.

Planned Parenthood responds to Live Action sting operation

Planned Parenthood responds to Live Action sting operation

BY KATHLEEN GILBERT

INDIANAPOLIS, June 30, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Undercover investigators who gave the lie to Planned Parenthood’s inflated claims of being a vital Medicaid provider in Indiana have ridiculed the abortion giant’s defensive response as “laughable.”

The Obama administration has threatened to hold Indiana’s entire Medicaid allotment hostage unless it reverses a law signed in May blocking Planned Parenthood’s $3 million share. Earlier this month, a federal judge granted Planned Parenthood of Indiana’s (PPIN) request to block implementation of the law on the basis that the administration’s retaliatory move, if carried out, would greatly harm the state’s Medicaid dependants.

In an effort to prove false PPIN’s posturing as a critical provider for low-income women, members of the pro-life group Live Action released audio recordings this week of investigators calling 16 of the state’s 28 Planned Parenthood clinics to ask for Medicaid services. According to the group, Planned Parenthood staffers at all 16 locations simply suggested that patients go to nearby health clinics or state-assigned primary care physicians.

The organization retaliated against the video this week, pointing to superior office hours and acceptance of new patients as evidence to back their original claims.

“We focused on helping our patients – even those posing as ‘patients’ – to find reproductive health care during the short period of time we were unable to provide services covered by Medicaid,” stated Planned Parenthood as quoted by local NBC affiliate WNDU.com.

“We maintain, as we’ve said all along, that just because there are other providers does not mean they offer the same patient-friendly hours, are accepting new Medicaid patients or offer the same services that PPIN offers.”

Live Action president Lila Rose shot back in her own statement, saying, “The basis of these rationalizations is false.”

“In a matter of minutes, Live Action easily found numerous Medicaid providers in Indiana ready and able to accept new patients; Planned Parenthood’s own lower level staffers repeatedly confirmed other providers ‘have the same services we have.’ And most laughable is their claim that ‘patient-friendly hours’ are what set Planned Parenthood apart from the other 800 Medicaid providers in the state,” said Rose.

“But what’s not funny is that Planned Parenthood continues to concoct more propaganda as they work to deceive the public and try to sweep this exposé under the rug,” she added. “Women don’t need this abortion-centered giant for their healthcare but Planned Parenthood needs women and taxpayer dollars to continue lining their pockets.”

On Wednesday, Live Action followed up on the video evidence with a breakdown of Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid presence in Indiana. The group points out that Planned Parenthood takes in less than one percent of the state’s Medicaid patients, while performing over half of all abortions there.

Planned Parenthood is in the business of killing babies. The most obvious reason is because this makes them a lot of money. Furthermore, to say that public funding will remain separate is disingenuous because I can almost assure you that if the Feds were to conduct audits on what and where these public funds are going, they would find a multitude of violations. This is part and parcel of combined provider models such as Planned Parenthood.

The only way to ensure that money is not dipped into from one place to another it to operate two distinct units. And even then, funding still flows through one stream whether up or down.

Believe me. Decision makers can say plenty but the reality remains that the issue of public finding going to Planned Parenthood violates the present law on the matter despite the fact that it may not do so openly. It’s a magic show for spending tax-payer dollars on ideological pork.

This “secret” from a self-professed pro-choice (pro-abortion) person speaks for itself. The truth about killing a child in the womb is difficult to accept.

Pray for this man (I assume by the text that the person is a he) as men suffer from abortion as well.

Reid Willing to Shut Down Government Rather Than Cut Planned Parenthood Pork

On the very day that the Church gathers to celebrate the Annunciation of Our Blessed Lord, Harry Reid makes it clear that he would rather make sure that innocent, unborn children have every chance to be murdered with full consent of the Federal Government.

Please read the disturbing email alert I just received from Fr. Frank Pavone, the National Director of Priests for Life, that I would like to share with you:

March 25, 2011

“I’ll shut down the government before I’ll cut one penny of abortion funding!”

Dear lozeerose,

The gauntlet has been thrown.

The infamous Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently declared to the American people that he would rather shut down the U.S. government than allow ANY cuts in funding to Planned Parenthood — the number one abortion provider in the world.

This epic fight is being carried out in the “budget battle” that is now going through the United States Congress.  There was a vote in the House of Representatives already to defund Planned Parenthood — but the pro-abortion members of both parties in Congress are adamantly opposed to ANY cuts in Planned Parenthood’s funding, and even many “pro-life” members are not ready to go all the way against them.

Right now, you and I need to bring enormous pressure upon Congress in order to make sure that we defund Planned Parenthood for the remainder of the fiscal year, which goes through the end of September.

We’re talking about $170 million — reluctantly provided to Planned Parenthood by the U.S. taxpayer.  That means you!

Your representatives in Washington are under enormous pressure to cave in to Harry Reid’s “ransom” demands, or else he’ll “hijack” and “kidnap” the federal government!

This is what we are up against when it comes to fanatically pro-abortion zealots.

However, there is hope that we can win this fight!  All we need is your immediate action so that the House of Representatives keeps the Pence Amendment (which defunds Planned Parenthood) in the “Continuing Resolution” bill that is being so hotly debated in Congress right now.

The four key players involved in this fight are: Rep. John Boehner (House Majority Leader)… Rep. Eric Cantor (Majority Whip)… Rep. Paul Ryan (Chairman of the House Budget Committee)… and Rep. Mike Pence (author of the Pence Amendment to defund Planned Parenthood).

For your convenience in contacting these four brave men who are on our side, we have prepared a message that you can sign just by clicking here. We will deliver it to them in person from our Washington DC office.

And while you are still on your computer, please forward this Alert to everyone on your email list.

I thank you in advance for your prompt action on this matter.  The vote could happen at any time, so we must act now!

In a recent statement on the issue of defunding Planned Parenthood through the Pence Amendment, Harry Reid said — in no uncertain terms — “Not only no, but HELL NO!”

So we are turning this around on Harry Reid.  When it comes to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood’s abortion business, we say, “Not only no, but HELL NO!”

Please take action now

Anti-Abortion Advocates Victorious in Virginia

Media_httpuploadwikim_ziera

The seal of Virginia. Image via Wikipedia.

The Washington Post is reporting some positive news coming out of the Commonwealth of Virginia:

Va. General Assembly agrees to regulate abortion clinics as hospitals

By Rosalind S. Helderman

The Virginia General Assembly has agreed that abortion clinics should be regulated as hospitals instead of physicians offices, a move that antiabortion activists have sought for almost two decades, insisting that it would improve clinic safety.

[Making this horrid procedure “safer” is something that I thought pro-abortion advocates desired especially in light of the recent, deadly scandals of back-alley-type botched abortions by “legit” providers. Unfortunately, what many of these advocates and abortionists seem to desire is to make money off the legal murder of innocent, defenseless babies.]

Abortion rights advocates say it will make the state one of the most restrictive for abortions in the country and could force as many as 17 of the state’s 21 abortion clinics to close.

[This is positive result of these new regulations.]

Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) has said he will sign the bill, which gives the state’s Board of Health 280 days from the law’s enactment to write new rules for clinics that perform at least five first-trimester abortions a month.

The bill’s passage came as the Democratic-led state Senate voted 20 to 20 Thursday to approve the measure after a lengthy and emotional debate. The tie was broken by Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling (R), who cast his vote in favor of the bill. All 18 of the chamber’s Republicans backed the bill, as did two conservative Democrats.

[Bipartisan support for a move in the right direction.]

Antiabortion activists hailed the vote as the most significant victory they’ve achieved in Virginia in years. Abortion rights groups said they think the regulations will place an unconstitutional burden on a woman’s ability to get an abortion in Virginia, and pledged to sue.

[This is the problem with abortion. It is truly not about “privacy” but more about the sanctioning of murder. If it is legal then it cannot possibly be wrong. Thankfully the Church has always taught that just because a law exists it does not mean that it is morally correct. In such circumstances we are to follow our properly formed consciences in fighting and opposing such immoral and intrinsically evil legislation.]

The practical impact of the vote will rest heavily on guidelines ultimately approved by the Virginia Board of Health. Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, said she fears the worst, though the 15-member board is dominated by holdover appointments made by former Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D).

rules that would require renovations that many clinics would find cost-prohibitive.

[These clinics are in the business of making money. And like any other (blood)money-making business, they will confirm to the regulations in order to continue their operation. However, Virginia will be a better state if many of these clinics close down thus becoming a step towards protecting women, babies and even men from this scourge.]

“I’m not thinking best-case scenario. I’m thinking worst-case scenario,” she said.

Antiabortion activists said those fears are overstated and insisted that they do not aim to shut down Virginia clinics.

[Well, that is my aim.]

Clinics that perform first-trimester abortions in Virginia are regulated similarly to doctor’s offices in which colonoscopies and cosmetic surgery are conducted. Antiabortion activists have long said that clinics need stiffer rules, more like those imposed on outpatient ambulatory surgical centers.

they have cited the case of a Philadelphia-area clinic recently shut down after authorities discovered a series of botched and illegal abortions; inspectors discovered containers of fetus parts.

In response, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) fired state health department workers this month for not monitoring clinics more closely.

“These are health professionals who are going to promulgate appropriate regulations,” said Family Foundation President Victoria Cobb, speaking about the state’s Board of Health. “It’s very typical of the other side that rather than fight what this bill does, they want to fight the biggest extreme of what this bill could be.”

The vote breaks a longstanding stalemate on abortion issues in the Virginia General Assembly, where bills to impose new regulations on abortion clinics have for years been approved by the GOP-led House of Delegates but killed by a Senate committee stacked with abortion rights supporters.

Indeed, the Senate’s Education and Health Committee has dispatched similar legislation this year. But in the waning days of this year’s legislative session, scheduled to conclude Saturday, Republican House members were able to use a parliamentary procedure to force a rare vote of the full Senate on the issue.

On Monday, Republicans slid a surprise amendment dealing with the abortion issue into a bill that had been approved by the Senate that requires hospitals and nursing homes to write policies on infection control.

[Realpolitik.]

That sent the issue directly to the floor of the Senate, where several conservative Democrats have always warned their leadership that they would vote with Republicans if ever forced to take a position on an abortion issue.

In August, Virginia Attorney Gen. Ken T. Cuccinelli (R) issued a legal opinion indicating that he thought the state’s Board of Health had the authority to regulate abortion clinics.

In the months since, however, the board has made no move to do so, and some antiabortion activists had been critical of McDonnell for not pressuring the board to do so.

Though McDonnell has not made abortion a major focus of his first 13 months in office, he was one of the legislature’s most vocal voices in opposition to the procedure when he served in the Virginia House of Delegates. He has said he supports clinic regulations.

District of Columbia Planned Parenthood Caught Aiding Sex Trafficking

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 2/10/11 12:40 PM

Image via Wikipedia.

Planned Parenthood abortion centers in three states have been caught on undercover video footage ignoring alleged sex traffickers and a new audio file Live Action released today adds a District of Columbia abortion clinic to the list.

The audio of the visit by two people engaged in a sting operation at the Planned Parenthood abortion business finds Planned Parenthood officials more than willing to  aid and abet a self-identified sex trafficker exploiting underage girls, including girls from other countries.

A woman posing as a prostitute and “manager” of young girls for “sex work” meets with a staffer at Planned Parenthood’s Egypt Center on Minnesota Avenue, NE, in Washington, D.C.  The Planned Parenthood staffer counsels the sex trafficker on how to get the girls tested, the best way for them to get an abortion and how to work the system if they don’t have health insurance.

One excerpt reveals the Planned Parenthood staffer willing to help waive insurance requirements for the victimized teens.

PP: Um, but I would recommend them come in all alone with this I mean, it doesn’t matter if it’s on the same day, their slots-

Prostitute: Oh, ok

Prostitute: Ok.

PP: just make them appointments, and if they don’t have insurance-

Prostitute: M’hm.

PP: Because they’re teens, we’ll put them under the teen thing –

Prostitute: Ok, teen years have teen servi-services

PP: Yeah and we’ll waive like a $5 or $10 donation with them.

Another excerprt shows the Planned Parenthood staffer, who knows the girls are underage and victims of the sex trade, willing to arrange abortions.

Prostitute: And then the same thing maybe if they need an abortion or something? Well, what’s the process for that?

PP: For that, we don’t do it but we give referrals to the other ones –so on the card –

Prostitute: Oh, on the card, yes –

Prostitute: Oh, ok

PP: Yeah, I just, I know that they have reduced fees through, um, people that’s, like you know, low income. It’s normally $297, for actual procedure.

Prostitute: Ok, a hundred- $297?

PP: Yeah, yeah they take it down, from-

Lila Rose, the president of Live Action, said the latest audio is just another example of the pattern of behavior of Planned Parenthood officials going against their stated support for women by allowing sex traffickers to abuse them and receive help from Planned Parenthood to subject them to abortions and victimize them further.

“The pattern in DC, just miles from Capitol Hill and the White House, is clear: presented with information that underage girls are being exploited for commercial sex, Planned Parenthood’s again shows its willingness to aid and abet sex traffickers,” Said Lila Rose, president of Live Action.  “An institutional crisis has consumed Planned Parenthood at the highest levels.  The reason their story has changed five times in reaction to our investigation is because they know they’re guilty.”

“Sex trafficking in the U.S. has increased dramatically in recent years, and the pattern revealed by our investigation shows sex traffickers have no better friend than Planned Parenthood.  Untold damage has already been done to countless girls and young women, whose safety and health are clearly at risk because organizations like Planned Parenthood provide confidentiality and safe haven for sex traffickers,” Rose said.

Since February 1, 2011, Live Action has released footage from New Jersey, Virginia, and New York Planned Parenthood clinics, all of which have been met by an ever-changing defense from Planned Parenthood.

The sting operations revealed Planned Parenthood center staffers were willing to provide assistance to alleged operators of a sex trafficking ring — ranging from helping them arrange abortions for the underage girls they said they were victimizing to showing them how to avoid scrutiny and skirt parental involvement laws. The videos covered Planned Parenthood centers in Richmond and alsoother centersin Roanoke, Charlottesville, and Falls Church.

Live Action also filmed Planned Parenthood staff helping sex traffickers in New Jersey — and the nurse who aided the alleged traffickers there has already been fired while the state health department is looking into the problems further.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has already received the full, unedited footage of the Planned Parenthood expose’ videos and he told CBS 6 WVTR in Richmond that they are “shocking.”

Live Action has previously released more than a dozen hidden camera videos from ten states. This body of visual evidence shows several alarming patterns of illegal Planned Parenthood activities including cover-up of sexual abuse of minors, the skirting of parental consent laws, citing unscientific and fabricated medical information to manipulate women to have abortions, and Planned Parenthood’s willingness to accept donations earmarked to abort African-American babies.
